Ready to Play in an Over The Board Chess Tournament?

Are you looking to establish or improve your United States Chess Federation (USCF) rating?  Do you prefer playing in over the board tournaments?  With clubs opening back up — over the board tournaments are sure to follow. 

You can check the USCF website to find tournaments in your area.  If you are playing for a rating make sure it is a rated tournament.  

Things to consider: 

Hire a coach to help you prepare for your tournament.  Coaches will help you analyze your game, provide tips for improving, go over rules you will need to know and teach you tactics and principles to help you improve.  You may purchase coaching packages with Chess Made Fun here.

Playing with your local chess club over the board will help you break a few bad habits to prepare you for tournament play. 

Some Examples:

  • Touching a physical clock will take time away from you during your game
  • Touch the timer and move the pieces with the same hand  

To play in an over the board tournament you will also need to learn notation so you can write down your games.   Your local over the board chess club is a great way to practice writing down your games.
